SILO² & Preventing Harm

Why BTAM for Violence Prevention?

Behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM) is an evidence-based and systematic process to identify individuals who need interventions and supports to get off the pathway to violence. Multidisciplinary teams that have participants from sectors like education, mental health, social services, law enforcement, faith communities, and other community institutions, use behavioral threat assessment and management techniques and processes to provide alternatives to criminal justice interventions to assist those who may be heading towards violent acts. It is proven to save lives, increase resiliency, and reduce fiscal and societal costs that are associated with acts of violence.

There are many resources, such as the Center for Prevention Programs & Partnerships, the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, the National Evaluation & Reporting Program Office, the National Threat Assessment Center, the National Association of School Psychologists, the Prevention Practitioners Network, and the FBI that have produced information and research available to communities and institutions.

Why free, virtual trainings from SILO²?

Our main passion is providing easily accessible, free, resources that are coming from the world's leading experts and are vetted through evidence-based practices and peer-reviewed research. There are many providers of threat assessment and management training. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel, in fact, these topics are easily found elsewhere in other training courses! What we want to do is take these concepts that everyone at SILO² has been teaching or working in for decades and help break into localized solutions using a multidisciplinary approach that is accessible.

We want to highlight how best practices like BTAM can not only assist in overall community safety but also empower harm prevention and resiliency. We'll also highlight other free, accessible trainings out there to continue to expand your knowledge and connect with additional institutions and resources!

It's part of our focus on system innovations that produce localized outcomes. Come join us!
